About the Course

If you're frustrated by your guitar recordings sounding weak or amateur, you're not alone. It's a process that isn't often discussed in great detail. Guitarists want their riffs to sound massive - but when it comes time to recording, they haven't had a pro walk them through the tracking process. This can lead to confusion and ultimately guitar tracks that aren't up to a professional standard. The truth is, getting the performances as tight as possible is what will elevate your guitar sound from average to great. No amount of mixing tips and tricks can elevate guitars that aren't executed properly.

About the Creator

Josh Middleton is a guitarist, producer, and engineer from Reading, UK, with over 30 years of experience playing guitar. Best known as the founder, guitarist, and vocalist of UK metal band Sylosis, and former guitarist for Architects (2016–2023), Josh has carved out a reputation for precision, tone, and high-level production. He has recorded and engineered guitars across four Sylosis albums, and co-produced three Architects records — including For Those That Wish To Exist, which topped the charts in two countries. Beyond his own bands, Josh has produced and engineered records for a wide range of artists in the heavy music scene, including Heriot, Urne, and Divine Chaos, and has recently expanded into mixing. With decades of real-world experience both on stage and in the studio, Josh brings a unique and practical perspective on how to achieve tight, professional-sounding rhythm guitar tracks in metal.
